‘Make insurance products more inclusive for women’

INSURANCE contracts and products must be more inclusive and affordable to ensure that no woman is left behind, Ipec Director of Corporate Services, Samantha Nhende has said.

She made the remarks while officiating at the Insurance Awareness Day breakfast meeting organised by Women in Insurance Zimbabwe (WIZ), as part of the Insurance Awareness Day commemorations in Harare on June 28, this year.

Women working in the insurance sector attended the meeting, which ran under the theme: Leave No Woman Behind.

e day, June 28, is a special day on the calendar of the insurance sector.

It was designated as Insurance Awareness Day, to serve as a reminder to everyone, to review their insurance coverage to ensure that they have the insurance they need and that they are adequately covered.

In her remarks at the meeting, Nhende underscored the importance of insurance, as a risk mitigation measure.

“Insurance is almost a luxury, yet so fundamental to peace of mind and financial security,” she said.

“It must not be an afterthought, once loss has occurred, such as an accident, a theft or property damaged by fire.

“As we commemorate this day, let us be encouraged to be prudent and ensure that we are adequately covered at all times.”

In line with the theme: Leave No Woman

Behind, Nhende called on women in the insurance sector to educate other women of the importance of insurance.

“To ensure we do not leave any woman behind, there is a need to simplify insurance and make it more accessible to all women, whether in the towns and cities or our rural communities,” she said.

“We need to make the insurance contracts and products more inclusive and affordable to ensure that no woman is left behind.”

In her remarks at the same event, WIZ president Ruth Ncube said stakeholders should do more to ensure that women are financiallyincluded in line with the Sustainable Development Goals theme of leaving no one behind.

“Systemic insurance risks are also rising amidst uncertainty about the global economy from increasing debt burdens and trade policies towards protectionism,” she said.

“Against this backdrop, the United Nations has raised the alarm that unless we revamp both national and international financial systems to be in line with inclusive and sustainable development, we will fail to fully accomplish the SDGs.

“I hope that this awareness drive will give you all a great opportunity to exchange the knowledge and experiences in order to create the successful inclusion, ensuring that we leave no one behind as we chart the insurance agenda way into the future,” Ncube added.
