BCC adopts school leavers employment policy
BULAWAYO deputy mayor, Mlandu Ncube has proposed the employment of school leavers catering services as part of an empowerment initiative.
According to latest council minutes, Ncube said a council school leaver policy must respond to the needs of the youth.
“Catering services in council installations must be provided by school leavers to empower them,” he said.
“The provision of meals and refreshments to council installations during meetings and workshops must also be provided by school leavers.
“This would reduce the council's expenses and at the same time empower them."
Ward 17 councillor Skhululekile Moyo supported the suggestion saying this would go a long way in contributing towards ending joblessness.
Council minutes revealed that the local authority has also been relying on school leavers for the construction of Early Childhood Development (ECD) blocks in council schools.
