Decentralise Registry offices: MP

—HARRIET CHIKANDIWA

OPPOSITION Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Pumula legislator sichelisile Mahlangu has pleaded with home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe to decentralise Civil Registry offices to ward and village level.

Addressing Parliament on Thursday, Mahlangu said the absence of registration offices made it difficult for citizens to access national identity cards (ids) and birth certificates.

“My question of national interest is that government promised the people that it would decentralise its Central Registry offices. Unfortunately, there is an office which has since been moved from serving the people of bulawayo,” Mahlangu said.

“Now because of that, people in peri-urban areas are having a problem in accessing national ids and birth certificates.

“we, therefore, request relevant ministers to liaise and iron out this problem. "

deputy speaker of Parliament Tsitsi Gezi said: “i request you to bring that as a motion to this house so that it can be debated and the minister will reply after the debate."
