Chitungwiza neglecting the ratepayers

SERVICE delivery is critical for any local authorities to function properly. It is very sad to note that most roads in Chitungwiza residential areas are in the intensive care unit and are littered with potholes such that motorists have to change the suspension of their vehicles regularly.

The council should make an effort to rehabilitate and maintain roads, which have become death traps.

In addition, there is really need for Chitungwiza Municipality to regularly monitor the sewage system which will be gushing especially in Zengeza 1 near Macheka ground.

Failure to maintain roads by council authorities does not only affect ratepayers, but the economy at large. Reports of tourists, who bring in foreign currency, avoiding countries with poor infrastructure abound and no tourist wants to visit a country which has bad roads such as ours.

Council is failing to collect refuse regularly in residential areas of Chitungwiza. The authority should be reminded that it is a health hazard to skip a week or two when collecting refuse, especially in the rainy season. Piles of refuse is a permanent feature at Zengeza 2 Shopping Centre where smelling uncollected garbge opposite to council offices thereby exposing residents to diseases such as typhoid and the dreaded cholera.

It is sad to note that councillors prioritise enriching themselves at the expense of service delivery.

The city council should ensure that ratepayers are paying for it to be able to provide satisfactory service. Citizen
